Challenge Coins

In 2012, the La Mesa Police Department will celebrate their 100th birthday! The LMPOA has designed a centennial challenge coin to help celebrate this wonderful event. On one side of the challenge coin is the centennial badge that all LMPD employees will be wearing in 2012 and on the other side of the challenge coin are the two patches that the LMPD has used.  To view the challenge coin simply click here.

There are a limited number of LMPOA centennial challenge coins.  The challenge coins are available for purchase for only $10.00 if you pick them up at the LMPD. Simply go to the police station located at 8085 University Avenue during business hours and tell them you want to purchase a challenge coin. Cash or checks only.

For an additional $2.00 the challenge coins can be shipped to you. If you need your coins shipped to you, please email Jeff Raybould.

2012 LMPOA Golf Tournament

The 3rd annual LMPOA golf tournament will be on Friday, July 13. We are going back to the Salt Creek Golf Course. Entry fee is only $80.00 per player which includes lunch and dinner!

We are bringing back the helicopter ball drop again. Last year's drop was a blast and this year will be better. It's only $10.00 per ball and three lucky winners will win a nice cash prize! In addition, we are debuting the LMPOA marshmallow longest drive! Show up to find out what that is all about.

Proceeds from this year's golf tournament will go towards the LMPOA and the La Mesa National Little League. The LMPOA supports numerous other organizations during the year and the proceeds will help with that. In addition we are planning on expanding our annual "Christmas Family Adoption" program. A program that we have been doing for 17 years!

About the La Mesa Police Officers Association

The La Mesa Police Officers Association represents the sworn police officers, community service officers, dispatchers, and animal control officer of the La Mesa Police Department. We have a 100% membership of all available positions and represent all ranks within the department, including the Chief of Police.

The La Mesa Police Officers Association was incorporated in 1954.  The association was originally founded due to poor relations with the city administrators, low pay, poor benefits, and a lack of training for the officers.  Prior to the formation of the La Mesa Police Officers Association, the officers had no way to negotiate better pay and benefits.  The officers were also "at will" employees and could lose their job at any moment.  With the formation of the La Mesa Police Officers Association, officers started receiving better pay and benefits.  With the support of all the police officers associations around the state, legislation was passed that made the job of a police officer a better one.  That strong bond between all of the police officers associations has continued since then and has made the job even better

The La Mesa Police Officers Association has two awards in memory of former La Mesa Police Department officers that are given out to the community, the Ken Joseph award and the Christine Rath award.

The Ken Joseph award is presented to the Grossmont College Administration of Justice student who best exemplified high academic achievement, a long-term interest in the Criminal Justice field, and a record of citizenship that is keeping with the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.

The Christine Rath award is presented to the El Capitan High School Agricultural student who best exemplifies high academic achievement on the their scholastic record, their FFA/4-H Project Enterprise, their leadership abilities, and display of citizenship that is in keeping with the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.
